Hammerheads Player Update

September 29, 2009
After one of the most successful seasons in the Wilmington Hammerheads franchise history the organization has seen a few of its 2009 players continue playing following the season.

Hammerheads Midfielder MVP Mark Briggs has singed a two year contract with Mosta FC in the Maltese First Division. Mosta FC began its season on the September 28th and will continue play through April. Hammerheads defender Colin Falvey is also currently in negotiations with the same club. Both Briggs and Falvey have expressed interest in returning to the United States during their off season in Malta.
2009 MVP Jamie Watson signed with the Austin Aztec’s of the USL First Division following the Hammerheads season. He had one goal in six appearances for the Aztec’s. Watson will now be going on a tour of England with Austin where they will face Stoke City and Burnley of the Premiere League in October.
Hammerheads goalkeeper Chris McClellan and midfielder Jamie Franks both joined the Charleston Battery for the rest of their 2009 season. McClellan made two appearances in goal for the Battery and Franks also had two appearances and recorded one assist for the Battery.
The Hammerheads finished 2009 as the regular season champions but then were upset by the Charlotte Eagles in the semifinals of the playoffs.
