The Hammerheads entered tonights game looking to secure first place for the regular season but that just did not seem in the cards for them tonight. They started tonight’s game looking a little bit sluggish in the first fifteen minutes. The Hammerheads then had a spark of energy and evened out the playing field. Both teams seemed as if both were playing to not make a mistake. It was a very defensive first half with very little shots on goal and not one shot on goal for the Hammerheads. The teams started the second half tied (0-0)
The Hammerheads finally found their first shot on goal in the 52nd minute. The second half was filled with more action then the first half and in the 55th minute the Richmond Kickers scored. Worthen scored for the Kickers and Gorres got the assist. In the 89th minute the Hammerheads let the frustration of a poorly played game get to them. Defender Colin Falvey was ejected and issued a red card.
The Wilmington Hammerheads have a chance to make up for tonight’s loss on Wednesday August 12, 2009 when we face up against Real Maryland here at Legion Stadium. The Hammerheads will also host a semifinal game of the 2009 playoffs on Saturday August 22nd, there opponent is to be determined.
