Hammerheads could clinch the regular season Saturday
August 6, 2009
A battle for first place is on the line Saturday evening when the Hammerheads host the Richmond Kickers. Wilmington and Richmond are tied for first place in the USL-2 standings; both with 35 points. With a victory Saturday the Hammerheads would clinch the 2009 USL 2 regular season and earn the number one seed for the playoffs.
Wilmington is on a streak in the second half of the season, winning five in a row and seven out of their last eight league matches. This winning streak has catapulted the Hammerheads to first place in the standings and with two of their final three matches coming against Richmond; it is going to be a fight to see who clinches first place.
Richmond is on a little winning streak of their own having won their last two matches and 6 out of their last seven league matches. The only blemish in those seven games was back on July 22nd when Richmond traveled to Legion Stadium and lost 3-2 to the Hammerheads. The Kickers are coming to Legion looking to avenge their loss two weeks ago but Wilmington is looking to continue the winning streak and take first place outright.
The game is set to kickoff at 7:00pm, come join us at 5:30pm for free wings and live music at the Buffalo Wild Wings Tailgate Party. Tickets are available via www.wilmingtonhammerheads.com or by calling 910-202-0518.
