The Hammerheads are coming off a huge 3-2 victory over the Richmond Kickers Wednesday night and are looking to continue their momentum Saturday evening in Harrisburg. There is now a three way tie for 1st place in the USL-2 standings with Wilmington, Richmond, and Harrisburg all having 29 points.
Wilmington will travel to Harrisburg Saturday to face off with the City Islanders in a crucial match for first place. Harrisburg remembers losing 3-2 to the Hammerheads at Legion Stadium back on June 27th and will be looking to avenge that loss with a victory of their own at home.
A win will not be easy for the City Islanders considering the Hammerheads are playing their best soccer in the second half of the season. Wilmington has won their last three matches and five out of their last six. They are hungry for another win and the 3 points that will put them on top of the USL-2 standings.
As the season is coming down to an end and playoff spots up for grabs, it looks like it’s going to be a dogfight for who will finish 1st between Wilmington, Harrisburg, and Richmond. With Wilmington playing Harrisburg Saturday and playing Richmond in two of their final four matches, it’s going to be interesting to see how the standings will turn out after the final few weeks of the season.
