The Hammerheads are set to play the Carolina Railhawks tomorrow night, June 16th, at 7:00pm at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup.
The Hammerheads advanced out of the first round last Tuesday with a victory over instate rival Charlotte Eagles. The Hammerheads secured that victory with a score of
Hammerheads Head Coach David Irving commented “We have a tough game ahead of us but it is important for us to come away with the victory. Making it through will give us the opportunity to host the Chicago Fire of the MLS and that would be a great event for our organization. But, we can not look ahead we must concentrate the task ahead and that is tomorrow night against the Railhawks.”
The Hammerheads have had great success in the past with advancing to the quarterfinals in 2003. The Hammerheads have also played the New York Red Bulls, DC United and FC Dallas in past Open Cup games.
Hammerheads Assistant Coach and Player Chris Bagley commented “this game with the Railhawks will be a lot of fun for us. It gives us the opportunity with a win to bring in the Chicago Fire of MLS and International stars like Mexican International Cuauhtemoc Blanco and US Veteran Brain McBride. It will be a huge challenge to get a result against the Railhawks but we will be ready and have plenty at stake to play for. “
The Hammerheads return to league play this weekend and will be on the road again for a game at Real Maryland. The Hammerheads and Monarchs are set to kickoff Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm
