After a 4 game road trip the Hammerheads returned to Legion Stadium tonight in front of 3,133 fans. The Hammerheads were unable to gain the victory and were defeated 3-1 by Pittsburgh.
Within five minutes of the first half defender Tim Karalexis had a well struck header sail high over the crossbar. In the ninth minute Riverhounds midfielder Tony Labudovski had a wide open look to the far post and simply passed the ball into the back of the net. Hammerheads goalkeeper Daryl Sattler was in good position, but still had no chance because the goal scorer was at the edge of the six yard box when he shot.
Ball possession was dominated by the Hammerheads the first half and the team had won six corners to the Riverhounds two corners. Even with all of the pressure on the Riverhounds in the first half the Hammerheads could not get the ball into the back of the net. Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead going into half time.
The beginning of the second half the Hammerheads seemed to lose their momentum and at the fifty fourth minute Pittsburgh’s Randolph Jarome slid a shot into the Hammerheads net. With the lead extended the Hammerheads moved an extra player to forward to try to shorten the Riverhounds lead. The strategy worked because in the seventy first minute Jyler Noviello blasted a shot upper ninety from about twenty five yards out and scored.
To the Hammerheads dismay the Riverhounds added a third goal quickly after to extend their lead back to two goals. Tonight’s game was the first Hammerheads home loss of the season at Legion Stadium. The Hammerheads are back home next Friday against the Bermuda Hogges at 7:00pm.
