Wilmington, NC – For the second time in the past week the Hammerheads have signed a player with Major League Soccer experience. The Hammerheads have come to an agreement for the 2009 season with Steven Curfman pending USL and USSF approval.
Hammerheads Head Coach David Irving commented “I am extremely excited to be able to add Steven to our roster for this season. He had a great career at Wake Forest and also has some experience in the MLS and USL First Division. I am glad to have him here in Wilmington and I look for him to add experience to our midfield.”
Curfman is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina and spent last season with the Carolina Railhawks of the USL First Division where he appeared in 30 games and scored two goals. Prior to his stint with the Railhawks Curfman was selected in the third round of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake.
Curfman had a standout career at Wake Forest University from 2003-2006. While at Wake Forest he made 81 appearances and recorded 15 goals and 21 assist. Curfman was a part of the US U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, FL as well as a member of the US Under-17 National Team.
Curfman commented “I am really excited to be here in Wilmington to continue to play professionally here in my home state. I think it is great to see an owner like Chuck who is dedicated to enhancing the sport in North Carolina and I am really happy to be a part of his plan. We have a good group of guys here and I am looking forward to playing with them and I think together we can bring a winning tradition back to Wilmington."
