The Hammerheads 2009 season came to an end on tonight with a 1-0 loss to the Charlotte Eagles in the semifinals of the playoffs. The Hammerheads had already clinched the regular season and had a quest for a championship but it just did not seem in the books for them tonight.
The first half ended with a 0-0 score and the Hammerheads defense was unbelievable. Second half was more evenly spread but in the 85th minute Gustavo Bentos found the back of the net for the Eagles to give the game winning goal. Hammerheads goalkeeper Chris McClellan had 13 saves on the night and kept the Hammerheads in the game.
The Hammerheads finish their season with a USL Second Division regular season championship and now move on to preparing for the 2010 season.
